"Roof Top of the world" - Manali to Leh
The Trans Himalayan "Highest mountain passes on Earth" Ladakh has always been a paradise for bikers from Manali to Leh highway is indeed the stairway to this heavenly place. This highway is totally crumbled and one must be extremely careful while riding. Once you climb up, you are on the top of the world. And the feeling is incredible. The journey from Manali to Leh, takes 07 days, crosses over 05 high passes, over rubbled roads exposing landscapes. As you reached Leh the scenery will change. Leh sits in a sandy, desert-like plateau and is surrounded by - unsurprisingly - majestic snow-capped peaks.

Day 01 | DELHI â CHANDIGARH â NALAGARH |
Morning board Shatabdi Express train at Delhi for Chandigarh. On arrival, meet our motorbike team and check your Royal Enfield bikes. After the test ride start the journey and proceed for Nalagarh which will be our first night halt. Nalagarh is known for its lush greenery, serenity and the panoramic view of the Shivalik hills. Visit Nalagarh Fort also. Overnight at Nalagarh.
Day 02 | NALAGARH â MANALI |
After breakfast, start the ride for Manali via Kullu. Ride through the meandering roads with green hills and valleys. After Kullu, ride on the other side of Beas River and enroute, visit Naggar which was the capital of Kullu Rajas till A.D. 1660. The Ancient castle, now converted into Tourist Bungalow. Nicholas Roerich, the famous Russian painter and philosopher lived here and his quaint little house has been converted into a small museum. Reach Manali and check-in at the hotel. Overnight at Manali.
Day 03 | MANALI â JISPA |
After an early breakfast, ride to Jispa, a small village in Lahaul region. Enroute, cross the spectacular Rohtang Pass which is at an altitude of 3980m. Riding on this road is extremely challenging and thrilling passing through narrow roads with many hairpin bends. After Rohtang you descend down to Lahaul valley and then reach Tandi, the place where Chandra and Bhaga rivers meet. Just ahead Tandi is Keylong, a small town and administrative center for Lahaul and Spiti Valley. Continue the ride and reach Jispa for overnight stay.
Day 04 | JISPA â SARCHU |
Today you will see the crystal clear lakes, rocky outcrops and streams in between. Ride through Zinzingbar and reach Baralacha La or pass where Zanskar, Ladakh, Spiti and Lahaul mountains meet. Descend Baralacha La and enter the landscape akin to the Tibetan Plateau â barren rocks with intricate patterns and amazing colours that are difficult to describe. Late afternoon, reach Sarchu â the border between Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir (Ladakh). Overnight at Sarchu.
Day 05 | SARCHU â LEH |
Morning, start the ride for Ladakh leaving Sarchu plains behind. Ascend on the 21 hairpin bends known as âGata Loopsâ. Then, you cross passes - Nakee La at 4711m and Lachulung La at 5065m. Riding further you reach the gorge where some of the rock faces look like huge anthills. Reach Pang and then ride further to reach More Plains, a 40 km flat stretch on this highway. Then ascend for Taglang La, worldâs second highest motorable pass at 5300m. Descend down and arrive at Indus valley. Reach Leh by evening.
Day 06 | IN LEH |
After breakfast, proceed for Leh sightseeing. Visit the surrounding monasteries of Hemis, Thikse and Shey. You may also take a ride up to Sangam (confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers). Evening visit the Shanti Stupa to witness an amazing sunset over the Indus Valley. Overnight at Leh.
Day 07 | LEH â KHARDUNG LA â NUBRA |
Morning start early and ride to Khardung la, the highest motorable pass in the world at 5600m. Cross this pass and descend down into the opposite side for Nubra Valley, a high altitude cold desert of India. Reach Diskit which is the headquarter of Nubra Valley, check-in at the hotel. Later, visit Diskit Monastery â oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley. Evening, ride to Hunder, famous for Sand Dunes and Bactrian Camels. Overnight at Diskit.
Day 08 | Â NUBRAÂ â PANGONG TSO |
This day you ride to Pangong Tso â the largest brackish lake, which is 134 km long and of which only one-third portion is in India and rest is in China. It is at an altitude of 4350m above from sea level. The lake mesmerizes one and all with its gleaming beauty. In winters, despite being saline water, the lake freezes completely. Overnight in camp at Pangong.
Day 09 | Â PANGONG TSO â RUMTSE |
Morning after breakfast, start your ride for the return journey to Manali. Passing through the rocky mountains you reach Rumtse for overnight stay.
Day 10 | Â RUMTSE â SARCHU |
Start riding backwards on the path and passing through Taglang La, More Plains and Pang you reach Sarchu. Overnight at Camp in Sarchu.
Day 11 | Â SARCHU â MANALI |
Start early in the morning and ride to Manali. You will come across the same places you where you stopped while going towards Leh. Cross Baralacha La, Jispa and reach Keylong. Take some rest here and continue the ride. Ascend towards Rohtang Pass and then descend down to Manali. Late evening, reach Manali and check-in at the hotel. Overnight at Manali.
Day 12 | Â MANALI â CHANDIGARH |
This day you will ride back to Chandigarh via Kullu and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh. Evening, reach Chandigarh, check-in at the hotel and handover the bikes. Overnight at Chandigarh.
Day 13 | Â CHANDIGARH â DELHI âFLY OUT |
Morning, transfer to railway station to board the Shatabdi Express train for Delhi for your flight to onward destination.
